Franklin & Marshall College, the Mayser Locker Room renovation

Location: Lancaster, Pennsylvania
Product: Regupol Aktiv
Color: Devil Blue
Area: 2,100 square feet

Franklin & Marshall is the thirteenth oldest institution of higher education in the United States. This thriving college enrolls 2,200 students and boasts a robust athletic program fielding 27 teams – 13 for men and 14 for women. Its athletes compete in the NCAA Division III Centennial Conference.

Despite the health of the athletics program, the locker rooms used by the football and lacrosse teams, were in less than desirable shape. Original to the Mayser Physical Education Center, built in 1961, two small rooms were shadowed with metal lockers that were showing rust and provided inadequate storage space for the teams’ bulky equipment. The floor was an outdated epoxy floor - not ideal for athletes.

F&M turned to Regupol America and its product Regupol Aktiv 35000 Series as the choice for rubber flooring. Made of 65% post-consumer recycled tire rubber and 35% post-industrial EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) rubber, the product achieves color through a mixture of the black recycled rubber and the colored EPDM, in this case “Devil Blue.” Though the recycled content makes up the majority of the material, the floor presents the optical illusion of appearing more blue than black.

The surface covers a total of 2,100 square feet and includes a 6’ x 16’ custom cut logo proudly displaying F&M’s team name – Diplomats. Abacus Sports Installations, Lancaster, PA, completed the project in time for the floor to receive the full brunt impact of the incoming football season.
